Skilled Worker Visa: English Language Requirement

Skilled Worker Visa: English Language Requirement

A sufficient level of the English language is one of the most important requirements to qualify for a UK Skilled Worker visa. 10 points (out of a necessary 70 for a Skilled Worker visa) must be scored by the applicant for English language skills equivalent to level B1 (or higher) of the Common European Framework of References for the English language in all 4 components (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).

The candidate normally meets the English language requirement if any of the following applies:

1.) An applicant is a national of any of the following majority-English-speaking countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Malta, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, United States of America.

2.) An applicant has a Degree that was taught in English and it is either:

(a) A bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate degree awarded in the UK; as proof, the following can be provided:

  • A certificate from the awarding body
  • A transcript issued by the university or college that awarded the qualification, or
  • An official letter from the university or college that awarded the qualification containing information equivalent to a degree certificate

(b) A degree or degree-level qualification taught in a university or college in a majority-English-speaking country listed above, or Ireland, which meets or exceeds the recognised standard of a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate degree awarded in the UK—the degree equivalence should be evaluated by Ecctis; https://www.ecctis.com/qualifications/van/default.aspx

(c) A degree or degree level qualification which meets, or exceeds, the recognised standards of an above-mentioned UK degree and was taught or researched entirely in English—in this case, Ecctis should evaluate both degree equivalence and language level.
